The sock is a little thick for what I'm doing, which is training for a marathon. But the thinner socks kept causing problems for me. I have had this brand before and I already see the same issue - the spots that rub normally, such as the heel, tend to rub through more quickly than I think a sock like this should.

The thickness is uniform, and they are rather thick. So, they may be good for cool whether - not sure about hiking in the summer
