I've had the 30" duffle for over 5 years and it has held up great, even with international travel. I wanted a smaller duffle for shorter trips, so this one should work quite well. I haven't used it as a backpack yet, I tried that with the 30" duffle, but since I am short, it was most uncomfortable. I don't plan on using this duffle as a backpack very often, but I do hope it will work out better than the larger one did.
By Sue from metro DC on 09/16/2008 Best Uses: Short Travel, Weekend Trips Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational What Is Your Gear Style: Minimalist Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: On the zipper into one of the end compartments, the teeth pulled away from the twill after only the second use...impossible to fix. I did not abuse/overstuff the bag, nor does it seem that the airline tossed it around too badly (no other scuffs). Very disappointing, as the bag is really nicely designed. This is my second High Sierra purchase, and the second that I've had to send back due to zipper failure.
Good point and bad points, like life By ealaspada from Florida on 08/10/2008 Best Uses: Airline Travel, Extended Travel, Short Travel Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational What Is Your Gear Style: Comfort Driven Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I have used this bag on many trips from shorter domestic trips to longer treks through England and Central America. It has many good points: the wheels are sturdy and it rolls well; the fabric is durable; it has much more room than a carry on while still modestly sized and not too heavy (though the wheels do add weight); its sportier design doesn't completely rat you out as a naive tourist on your foreign jaunts. It also has its issues: One of the main compartment's zippers broke on first use; because of the design it's 4050 cubic inches result in not quite as much capacity as you would imagine (when the side pockets are packed, it leaves much less room in the main compartment). One reason I purchased a duffle is I was hoping it would make for easier rolling down the aisle of European trains (it has a much smaller width than regular rolling luggage), but it still proved to be difficult in navigating (the backpack straps are your best bet in this situation). All in all it was certainly a good bet for the money, but expect a few disappoints. But then, such is life...
