After using them however, the proof is in the fibers. They absorb very very well, and so far no fraying/looping as is typical from JCP towels which I have many of .
The Egyptian cotton in these is very good, as I also have the wash cloth's , which also seem somewhat thin compared to some of the thick ones sold today, but they absorb better than anything I've tried. They absorb like a sponge, wring out quite dry, and are ready for more absorbing.
So, while they may not look like super deluxe towels , thickness isn't everything .... it's how good the cotton that IS there performs , and these perform very very well .
4 stars because there is probably a better towel out there, but likely it costs a lot more.
