By HIker trying to lighten up from Seattle, WA on 07/30/2008 Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational What Is Your Gear Style: Comfort Driven Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: I wasn't sure if this had a floor, so ordered it. No floor. I'd prefer to keep the bugs and mice off of me at night, so I'll send it back.
By Ron from Palm Harbor, Fl on 04/07/2008 Pros: Easy to set up, Lightweight, Sturdy Cons: Needs Pole Attachments Best Uses: Backpacking, Mountaineering Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer What Is Your Gear Style: Minimalist Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Tested the Hut 1 in my backyard using 3 std Dac tent poles from another tent and was very impressed. Though not a true test it did appear excellent: well-made and well-designed and "roomy" for minimalist use(Good #1-3). I feel it safe enough to really test on my next Sierra trip! Tent had good reinforcement for front pole(Good #4) but none for rear pole(Bad #1). I do not trust the tent line attachment-loops at each end to hold up over time for me because they are "ultra-light"(Bad #2). I always overtighten gear to ensure it is tight and secure. (My bad!) I bypassed these by wrapping each guy-line around the tent peak and pole to spread the tension load over a greater contact-area and not a single loop sewn into a seam! It pitched very taut very safely! Obviously ultralight means less space, headroom and comfort, etc, yet the vestibule was suprising non-tiny! One could call it adequate(Good #5). Tent stake attachment loops were excellent(Good #6). Could use some pole attachments to prevent slippage(Bad #3). I added these myself. I suspect I will be pleased by this gear in the field!!!
