By An Alaskan-wanna-be babe from Grand Rapids, MI on 09/21/2008 Pros: Durable, Great Traction, Stable Best Uses: Backcountry, Day hikes Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I was initially impressed with the fit. I had plenty of room in my toes and the boots made my foot feel very supported. I developed heel blisters breaking them in to the trail on day one of a three-day hike in the Alaskan wilderness this summer, and was sad to realize they also produced some "hot spots" on the balls of my feet. I spray-waterproofed them well before we set out, which was good because they didn't leak in the rain or during watercrossings. Despite the initiation blisters, overall they're solid boots, and I am hopeful that they will only improve with time.
By Michelle from San Francisco, CA on 09/06/2008 Pros: Ankle Support, Comfortable/No Break-In, Sturdy/Durable Best Uses: Day Hiking, Light Loads Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer, Casual/Recreational Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I am a fairly true size 9, and my feet swam in these. Surprising given all the other reviews. Re-ordered the 8.5's, and they fit perfectly. No breaking in necessary. Nice light alternative to my heavy leather gore-tex hikers. Will use these for a long time!
By Mtn girl from NC on 08/26/2008 Pros: Ankle Support, Arch Support, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable, Water Resistant Best Uses: Cold Weather, Day Hiking, Harsh Terrain, Wet Conditions Describe Yourself: Casual/Recreational Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This is my second pair of Asolo Goretex Hiking Boots. My first pair was great, no break in period. However, this pair was a little big and I didn't realize it until I had hot spots on my heels. My friend and I climbed Mt. Cammerer in Smokys, 3100', and I had to change into other boots because of hot spots. I put in superfeet and plan to try them again on a shorter hike.
