I wear a 6.5 M, and found the shoe oversized, but I don't think exchanging for a smaller shoe would have worked. I feel the shoe runs generously overall.

I put some Mink oil polish on them right after I got them. It did darken the leather slightly but I liked them even better and it solved the staining issue. I have not had any problems with staining and they buff up very nicely. You could always try a silicone based protectant if you are concerned about staining and want them to remain lighter.
