I live in Chicago and ride my bike to work regardless of snow, rain, cold, etc. This jacket is about as waterproof as it could be. It also has a great amount of insulation and ventilation to keep me warm, but not too warm.
I've worn other jackets that claimed to be water-resistant that worked for only the first couple times they were worn. Granted, this jacket hasn't gotten through a whole winter yet, but I'm optimistic.
The jacket is also made extremely well. Its construction makes my Helly Hansen gear feel cheap. Good seams, quality material inside and out. Solid zippers. Velcro and pockets where necessary. Inside elastic to keep the wind/snow out.
Future models would do better to have an attached/detachable hood, but I knew this one didn't have one before I bought it, so I have nothing bad to say there.
