A Really Top Quality Stone
By Jim D. from Linwood, N.C. on 5/18/2008
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
I'm a wood carver. Anything less than "scary sharp" is unacceptable. To achieve and maintain the kind of edge I need takes a particularly hard stone. I found the "Translucent Arkansas" to be the equivalent of imported stones that I'd paid six to eight times as much for.
It is listed as a visual "2nd"... that didn't impair its use or value at all.

Comments: The only problem I had was the lid was warped about 1-2mm's on the left corner. The stone was flat, grey and had no defects. Considering I saved 70% for a very popular product I consider this an unbelievable buy!
May be a 2nd but very functional

Comments: i love these. bought them for my boyfriend 'cause his mom commented that he needed coasters, and i knew it wasn't something he would think to get for himself. being someone who likes things that are natural and simple i knew he would appreciate them. i was going to order a wooden stand or holder for them, but he likes them just resting on top of one another on the lower shelf of his coffee table. i like the natural variations in the stone and the fact that they are absorbent. so far we haven't noticed any annoying sandy residue being left behind on the table as other reviewers have said. these are also a better value than a better known brand that makes similar ones, and these look better cause they aren't printed with images that try to imitate the natural patterns in stone--they are just perfectly content to be the naturally imperfect stone coasters that they are.
