Great for boating/fishing as well as casual wear. Good support for walking although the rubbery feeling on the sole of your foot takes a bit of getting used to.

By vinnie from USA on 08/08/2008 Pros: Breathes Well, Comfortable Describe Yourself: Alternative, Casual, Stylish Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: I like these sandals, but in the end they are not practical because the ends of the straps, when tightened, hang over the side of the foot and get caught underneath the sandal. Likewise the ankle strap, when tightened, has a limited area of contact between the two hooks and the loops of Velcro. Too bad because they are otherwise really good.
By Poddy from San Jose, Ca on 08/03/2008 Pros: Breathes Well, Comfortable, Durable Cons: None- I bought 6 pairs Best Uses: Casual Wear, Going Out, Travel Describe Yourself: Alternative Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: The styling is for men is the same as the women's-Sierra Trading post has almost nothing, ever in women's size 12. I am delighted that even though this is a "men's" sandel it looks and fits very nicely on my feet. They are super comfortable. Finally somehting nice in my size. The few shoes Sierra Trading Post does carry in 12 are like bulky, ugly, beige, etc.
THinking of getting a second pair. By Bill from St. Petersburg, FL on 07/29/2008 Pros: Breathes Well, Comfortable, Lightweight Best Uses: At The Beach, Casual Wear Describe Yourself: Alternative, Casual Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Wear them everyday. If I had a complaint it is the sole of my feet feel warmer (then with my old sandels) in them.
By Former Teva Mush Fan from Chattanooga, TN on 07/22/2008 Pros: Comfortable, Lightweight, Stylish Cons: No spider rubber, Too Narrow Best Uses: Casual Wear, Going Out, Travel Describe Yourself: Casual, Outdoorsy Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I'm a huge fan of the old Teva Alp Pros, and I've been looking for a suitable replacement for quite some time. While these Volterra Alps aren't quite as nice as the old Aps, they're super comfortable. The heel "Shoc-Pad" feels amazingly soft, and the arch support is great. The straps around the heel and ankle is not all that stylish, but it feels fine and doesn't seem to rub strangely or unduly create blisters. The fore-foot strapping follows the great traditional Alp design, but the straps are little wider and creep up on your toes a bit more. I like the look of the old design better (the narrower straps also let your foot breathe a little more), but the current model's straps feels fine.
The toe area of the sandal is a bit narrow--the sandals fit, but are barely wide enough for my toes. My feet are a little on the wide side, but I don't have this problem with most of my other normal-sized shoes (I don't think I wear "wides" in anything), so beware if you have really wide feet.
Where's the Spider Rubber, Teva? There's nothing wrong with the Traction Rubber outsoles on the Volterra Alps, but they're certainly not as nice as the amazingly sticky Spider Rubber outsoles of the old Alps.
Oh, and don't order a size down--I wear size 11.5 or 12 in most shoes, and the size 12 Volterra Alps fit perfectly, perhaps even a little on the snug side.
Comfortable and Nice Looking By Woodyww from East Tennessee on 07/22/2008 Pros: Breathes Well, Comfortable, Lightweight, Stylish Best Uses: At The Beach, Casual Wear, Going Out, Travel Describe Yourself: Casual, Conservative, Stylish Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: My review title and the descriptor boxes I checked pretty much sum it up. I will add this caveat -- if you're looking for a tank tread, macho sandal, you probably won't cotton to these. The nylon straps look a little like ribbon. On the other hand, if you're looking for a smart looking sandal that you can wear with dressy casual clothes as well as shorts and a t-shirt, these will work. Hope some of this helps.
