I know it sounds crazy, but there is a protocol for using such an instrument in determining 'seeing' in astronomical observations. I found that this device is accurate, helpful, and inexpensive.

I've used it to monitor wheel bearing temperatures on long trips while I was pulling trailers, to just checking the temps around doors/windows in the wintertime. SUPER Useful & make a GREAT gift.
