Good backpacking boot, but check the fit By mountain guy from Palo Alto, CA on 08/09/2008 Pros: Ankle Support, Comfortable/No Break-In, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable, Water Resistant Best Uses: Harsh Terrain, Heavy Loads, Wet Conditions Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I have narrow feet that are hard to fit. After wearing through two pairs of Vasque Wasatch 12M boots that were a bit wide but OK, I bought the Sundowner Summit 12M, assuming that they would be made on the same last. They seemed OK at first, but after a rough backpacking trip I found that they were not only a bit wide, but also a bit short. Otherwise, they are comfortable and supportive.
Recommeded from a friend and I concur... By Jay from Tampa, FL on 08/06/2008 Pros: Ankle Support, Arch Support, Great Traction, Water Resistant Best Uses: Day Hiking, Harsh Terrain, Heavy Loads, Motorcycling, Wet Conditions Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: So far this boot has been impressive. Good ankle support and traction on any surface I've encountered so far. I love the rubberized toe cap as this keeps the motorcycle shifter from ruining the leather. These boots are going to require some break-in. The leather is rather stiff when new, and fully attached tongue pinched a little the first couple of days. I've only worn them 5 times and already they are feeling good.

After a week of wearing, they have molded to my feet quite well. Good quality set of boots. Would highly recommend to anyone.

By texaswalkingguy from Dallas, TX on 06/19/2008 Pros: Ankle Support, Arch Support, Great lugs, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable, Water Resistant Best Uses: Cold Weather, Day Hiking, Harsh Terrain, Heavy Loads, Long-Distance Hiking, Wet Conditions Describe Yourself: Casual/Recreational, Environmentalist Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: great boots, a little heavy, the only difficulty is it seems to be a little tight and uncomfortable around the upper arch and upper ankle----however as I have been walking in them---this has diminished. I believe this will not be an issue with a few more miles on them.
Great boots, unbeatable discount price By Rasa from Germantown, MD on 06/18/2008 Pros: Ankle Support, Arch Support, Great Traction, Sturdy/Durable, Water Resistant Best Uses: Harsh Terrain, Heavy Loads, Long-Distance Hiking, Wet Conditions Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: My last pair of sundowners lasted me 6 years and hiked hundreds of miles of wilderness terrain out west. These are excellent medium weight backpacking boots with very sturdy soles. At 50% off it's just amazing!
Very pleased with fit & support By Bill from Connecticut on 06/17/2008 Pros: Ankle Support, Right amount of stiffness Cons: Order 12 your size down Best Uses: Day Hiking, Everyday, Light Loads, Support on concrete floor Describe Yourself: Casual/Recreational, Environmentalist, Hunter-fisherman-jogger Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I use the boots, daily, at work. I walk on concrete floors. The boots offer wonderful support-my feet felt less sore after wearing them for 8 hours. The boots themselves cool off quickly. The soles and foot bed is quite stiff, yet not so much that I feel my foots range of motion in thwarted. These are good overall boots I am so far very surprised and pleased with.
By MidTenn Caver from Nashville, TN on 06/11/2008 Best Uses: Backcountry, Day hikes, Everyday Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: So far this boot has been a good performer. I used them one weekend ridgewalking (bushwacking along the side of mountains in search of new cave). They have good grip and kept me from sliding around while negotiating steep terrain. They don't feel as good as the original Sundowner, but I think they give more support. Time will tell if the hold up, as I think they are made overseas now. No biggy though, since I paid about 80 dollars a pair.
By cuskibum from Plano, TX on 06/10/2008 Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Great ankle support, Great Traction, Stable Best Uses: Backcountry, Day hikes Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I use this boot for hiking and backpacking and it serves my needs very well. It provides me the stability I need with my old ankles. Even though they are made in China, the quality is very good. I started wearing Vasque boots 35 years ago with the Hiker II (still have them on their third soles) and have stuck with Vasque ever since. I did add different insoles to accomodate my larger volume feet. Very good boots.
