So GREAT I'm buying my it again! By Goddess of Love from Portland Oregon on 08/05/2008 Pros: Durable, Extremely comfortable, Good Back Support, Good Padding Best Uses: Airline Travel, Backpacking, Extended Travel, Great Day Pack, Short Travel, Weekend Trips Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer What Is Your Gear Style: Comfort Driven Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend I first bought this pack in 2005 for a trip to Borneo to do habitat mapping for Orangutans in Tanjung Puting National Park. It was thoroughly abused on that month long trip, wading through swamps and the jungle in 90 degree weather with 100% humidity. This pack breathes well and I was never uncomfortable; well..maybe from the leaches but not from the pack. It held up great for this and other field research over two years.
My favorite features, beside comfort, were the angled water bottle holder and the little zipper pockets in the waist strap. I could keep up with the Dayak guides and still get a snack or my water bottle without having to stop and take off my pack or ask someone to get out my water bottle. Also, the fact that it's proportioned to fit a 5'2" womans body is awesome. The XS fit me like a glove.
Sadly my first one was stolen and I have wished for it back many times. Now I'm preparing to go to Tinian to do some bird surveys and I'm so happy to have found this pack on-line! It's no longer available at the retailer where I bought it because it's an older model. The new models don't have the angled water bottle holder which was one of my favorite features, what was Gregory thinking?
I recommend this pack for use as a day pack or for a weekend backpack trip. I checked extended travel but as a daypack not for a major backpacking expedition; it's not big enough for that. Get this pack ladies!

It is small; but PERFECT for shorter females like myself. And The COMFORT! Wow! I absolutely love it! There are some side panel zipped compartments on the waiste belt that are very cool and handy. Very pleased.

At last, a pack that really fits! By The field scientist from Western slope, CO on 07/07/2008 Pros: Durable, Good Back Support, Good Padding Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational What Is Your Gear Style: Minimalist Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend I bought this pack primarily to carry my gear for my job as an ecologist and monitoring specialist. I needed something that could carry field books, a clipboard, camera, GPS unit, hydration pack and extra clothes, without squashing my lunch! I love this pack because it has a number of separate compartments so I can keep everything organized and not end up with a gooey ball of peanut butter and jelly dough where once I had a sandwich.
The pack fits so well that I hardly even know I'm carrying extra weight. I've tried many packs and this one fits better than any I've had in years. It sits just right on my hip bone rather than in the middle of my back and the shoulder straps don't pinch my neck.
My only complaint is that the zippered opening on the main compartment is a little small making it hard to pack bulky items like my clipboard.

I am a petite woman and needed a pack that fitted my frame well.

The only pack I found that comes in XS By greyowl from Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada on 09/11/2007 Pros: Comfortable, Easy To Load, Highly Adjustable, Lightweight Best Uses: Day Hikes, Light Loads Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I searched high and low to find a pack that would fit my 15" torso. The XS size is just perfect for me. The pack looks good, is light, fits comfortably against the back and shoulders and doesn't ride up against the neck like so many other packs I tried on. The hip/waist belt is also very comfortable and provides great support. I do fairly long day hikes (two per week on average) - the Gregory Iris packs all my essentials as well as extra clothes with room to spare. I love this pack.
