The snowshoes are great to pop on and off I go. Our home borders a field and woods beyond. It is great to come home from work and snowshoe out the back door and enjoy natures beauty!

Used them on new snow over frozen snow. Worked great. They are so much better than our old wooden snowshoes. Have not tried them in deep snow since our current conditions are new snow over old frozen snow. We hiked back into a river bottom where there were wet areas where the snow had covered the ground before freezing. Our previous hike there without snowshoes saw us up to our knees in water when we hit a soft spot in the snow. No such problems with the new snowshoes. Easy on and off and walking with them was like wearing regular hiking boots. One of our best buys from Sierra Trading Post.

Without gear I'm 6'1" 190# and live in Pacific NW. Snow here is heavy, so I cannot speak to how these do on powder, but on typical Cascade snow these things are GREAT. Plenty of float (remember, not powder) and very easy to move around in. Some reviews on other sites talked about tripping. These are NOT casual small shoes - you need to walk in them like you have snowshoes on!! Probably not so good for racing/running. They do "snap" up when you step and throw some snow, but I wear gaters, so not a problem. The crampons are amazing. I may be a bit on the daring side, but instead of switching out to boot-crampons, used these to climb up some steep icy slopes (probably 45-60degree pitch) and didn't have problems. Ordinarily I'd have used crampons and ice-axe here. When I bought them I hoped I could wear them with my Tele boots so I could shoe in then ski down but didn't see any reviews about such. If you have the same question, they worked great with my size 12 Tele boots. Having the great crampons lets me go higher and steeper then I could with skins.
All around good snowshoe but ecellent vs. others on ice and hardpack. I give 4 stars ONLY because it's not perfect, and I grade hard. Climbing steep SNOWY slopes without ice for the center-mounted crampons to bite is the only weak point I found, if you can call it that. But remember, I'm on the daring side and want to walk straight up, not zig/zag. Some of the plastic MSR shoes look like they might handle this one particular situation better ... but I doubt any single shoe can do EVERYTHING perfectly. This is an awesome snowshoe and I'm very VERY glad I bought it over others I looked at. If you want an aggressive yet nimble climbing shoe, this is it.
