By Raffpap from Medical Lake, WA on 07/09/2008 Pros: Smooth Drag System, Smooth Reeling Describe Yourself: Avid Fisher Comments: A quality traditional fly reel that compares favorably to the Sage 1201 and Okuma Sierra series. It looks and feels like a quality product. I used it on a lake today for the first time and found that is reels very smoothly. The drag is fully functional and was put to the test by a couple 21-24" rainbows, with both taking several feet of line. The drag operated flawlessly. I can't yet speak for durability but like I said, it compares favorably to my Sage 1201s and Okuma Sierra reels that I've had for several years. This seems like a good reel for trout in both lakes and rivers, however, I don't know that I'd use it for hard-charging salmon and steelhead.

By Aussie Angler from Goulburn River on 12/09/2007 Cons: Drag requires patience Describe Yourself: Casual Fisher Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I have found the red fly 2 a robust and low maintenance reel which does exactly what I need to do - that is hold the fly line. The drag system takes a little adjusting but once you get used to it it is simple to use. This reel has provided great value for me for over 7 years and has taken plenty of knocks and mud from the river bed and still works as well as when I bought it new.
Drag only range is about 4or5 clicks. By None (Richard) from Blairsville, Georgia 30512 on 10/10/2007 Cons: Hard To Maintain, No Range in Drag, Not Reliable Drag, Very Poor Quality Drag Describe Yourself: Avid Fisher Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: I like the feel and looks of this reel, but it has a very poor drag system. I removed it from my rod and went back to my old reel. The drag will tighten up as you fish and I guess it is the action of unwinding or winding. If it was not for the poor drag I would rate it 5 star.
