Firm foot bed- very stable day hiker By Jeff from Philadelphia, PA on 08/15/2008 Pros: Durable, Water Resistant Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: The foot bed in this shoe is a little stiff and harder than most shoes. Still, it's very comfortable right out of the box. I found the shoe to fit the average size foot. Very stable and seems well built.
Excellent casual/hicking shoes By Richard Siemer from Midland, MI on 08/11/2008 Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Great Traction, Non-slip sole, Stable Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: The shoes are of excellent quality and construction. They are appropriately rigid to provide stability and are very comfortable. I have somewhat narrow feet (12's) with a bunion on the left foot (TMI). Dispite these facts the shoes fit perfectly!

Didn't break in shoes in advance and didn't experience any discomfort. Shoes were water resistant and dried quickly when soaked (after crossing rivers with high water levels). Very good value.

Light, breathable, poor support By Kevin from West Sand Lake, NY on 07/16/2008 Pros: Comfortable, Great Traction, Water Resistant Best Uses: Backcountry, Day hikes, Everyday Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend I'm using these as approach shoes (rock climbing) and on steeper terrain the lack of ankle support is noticeable. In my prior Merrill day hikers I did not have this problem. Issue seems to be with not being able to get them tied tight enough, and there's too much slip in the material around the opening. I also don't think the materials used around the opening/ankle are rigid enough, so when you shift the shoe just gives.
The good thing about them is the light weight and great traction. I'm also going to try a liner sock to see if it helps with the slipping, which may be a result of the sock slipping on the skin and not with the shoe. These are also very attractive shoes and even if I end up not using them hiking they're great for around-town.
