I was really surprised at how much I liked this jacket. It is extremely comfortable, midway weight between light wind shirt and heavy fleece or hard shell. Jacket moves well, seems resistant to stains and looks as good on the street as it is useful on the trail or in the mountains. I particularly like the two large internal pockets and the two well-designed cord adjustments at the hem which are reached from the inside and pull upwards, eliminating dangling cords that can be a problem climbing.

Knit cuffs keep out cold and snow, and hood works well in spite of no forward/back adjustment. I would prefer to be able to secure it when not in use, but it doesn't seem to be a problem. It makes a snug collar when down with cords pulled tight.

Pit zips and deep internal pockets should be included in nearly all recreational jackets in my view, and this has one but not the other. Still, you can't go wrong for the money. It really has a wide range of uses.

Comments:
I now have 3 different weights of soft-shell hoodies. This one fits nicely between my heavy, very warm Helly Hansen and my very light REI "windbreaker". Probably the only jacket I would carry if temperatures are expected to be between 40 and 60, with a possibility of wet weather.

Comments:
While I bought this jacket as an afterthought, it immediately became my favorite. A great fit with or without layering, and so comfortable I'm not aware I'm wearing it. For hiking, it's nearly silent and has yet to be torn by thick underbrush. The attached hood fits well and never interferes with a pack or hangs on branches or catches the wind. Large pockets inside and out are fine for lightweight stuff, but heavy bottles or cameras are awkward to carry. Breast pockets would be a nice addition, as well as pit zips for vents. This jacket packs easily to the size of a 2 litre bottle, and "stuffs" smaller. It also tends to stay wrinkle free. It can't replace my "deluge proof" Trask River jacket, but does very well in an occasional cloudburst or light drizzle. As an outer shell, with a layer or two, I can't imagine a situation for dayhiking that this jacket wouldn't do well. An excellent base for 3 season hikers. I wish I'd gotten a second for casual wear. Like all the Columbia apparel I own the quality is excellent, and the Sierra folks are great to deal with.

order this one size bigger than you normally wear. the length is VERY short. it'd be a good wind jacket to layer under for hiking/snowboarding/skiing if you get the right size.

Comments:
This is a great jacket for Spring or Fall, when it's too warm for a winter jacket but too cold to go without. It's surprisingly warm for how thin it is and it's wind and water resistant. I couldn't be happier.
