Just the right size for adventure. By Northern Lass from Burns Lake, BC on 12/14/2008 Pros: Comfortable, Good Padding, Highly Adjustable, Lightweight Best Uses: Climbing, Extended Hikes, Mountaineering Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer What Is Your Gear Style: Minimalist Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Took this pack on a 3-day adventure in the snowy alpine. It's the perfect size if your gear is small and packable. I wish it had bottom entry instead of having to pull everything out to get to things. It has a lot of good space for climbing equipment but would not be ideal for heavy loads.
This will be my main backpack. Can't wait to take it skinnin'.
Light, strong & comfortable By RFO from Cinti, OH on 08/11/2008 Pros: Durable, Easy to Pack, Good Back Support, Good Padding, Strong Zippers Best Uses: Backpacking, Camping, Short Travel, Weekend Trips Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational What Is Your Gear Style: Comfort Driven Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I really liked this pack. It fit me perfectly. The suspension was comfortable. It hung just right. I had to return it because it is too tall for an airline carry-on. I had hopes of finding a legitimate overnight trail pack which could also function as a carry-on. Still looking.
great quality not a back country pack By comforthiker from oakland ca on 07/17/2008 Cons: Difficult to Pack, Not Enough Compartments, Not Enough Padding What Is Your Gear Style: Comfort Driven Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: amazing quality, but not a true back packing pack. totally set up for winter back country skiing. Absolutely no pockets or organizing features. Just a big tube. Also no place to secure a sleeping pad/ bag to the exterior. Would not recomend for traditional back country trips. skiing and rock climbing only.
By Scotch Brite from Logan, Ut on 07/08/2008 Pros: Durable, Good Back Support, Good Padding, Strong Zippers Cons: Not Enough Compartments Best Uses: Backpacking, Weekend Trips Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer What Is Your Gear Style: Minimalist Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I got this pack mostly because of the mountain hardwear name and the weight of the pack.It says it's designed for climbing, which I don't do much of, but it works great for simple backpacking. I was very happy with how comfortable it is. I have actually only used it once so far on a 6 mile weekend trip, but I'm sure over long distances it would be comfortable too. It has NO pockets. I organized with a few stuff sacks and that worked out fine. The lid does have a pocket for snacks or maps or other things you need close at hand. The bivy pad isn't much to brag about. Don't think I'll ever use it. This pack is also alot bigger than I expected which was a plus. Over all I am very happy with the pack, and I'm excited to use it more! By KG from NJ on 07/06/2008 Pros: Durable, Easy to Pack, Good Back Support, Strong Zippers Best Uses: Short Travel, Weekend Trips Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer What Is Your Gear Style: Minimalist Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Great no-frills pack for technical alpine climbing with enough space for bivy gear for 1-2 nights. Has just enough straps and compartments for important gear: trekking poles and sleeping pad on the sides and ice tools on the front, and crampons + rope strapped under the lid. However, keeping the lid makes it hard to look straight up...the lid is useful for the approach but I would ditch for the actual climb. The back doesn't ventilate super well so can be a little sweaty, but this shouldn't be a huge problem since it'll be hanging off your back while you negotiate that 5.11 overhang!
