I wear about a size 6, and the Medium fits with enough room for a decent layer underneath (I wear it with a long sleeved lightweight merino wool shirt).

They are extremely comfortable. It hasn't turned truly cold here yet, so I can't say how they hold up to real winter weather. I ran in them in mid-40 degrees & drizzly and was happily warm and dry.
A note about size: In most women's clothing I'm a medium or a petite medium. In running clothes I am usually a large. When I checked "true to fit," I meant true to my running size.
