Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
I'm not convinced that it's really waterproof and would not leak when fully immersed. The main pouch has the two opposing zippers so it can be opened in either direction. Where the two zippers meet, there would seem to be a potential leak.
As a flyfisherman, I expect the pack to occasionally get completely dunked. I purchased this pack to protect my digital camera and other gear.
Also, the zippers, because they are the sealing type, are difficult to close on the main pouch. The material flexes as one tugs on the zipper, such that the direction of pull is no longer the same as the direction to close the zipper.
