For backpacking probably not friendly enough if trying to economize on space.

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I bought one set to put away with our camping gear and one set to use as child safe dishes. With all the concerns of plastic and two rowdy boys (2 & 4), I'm happy to have found an alternative to plastic plates. My boys love how light they are (though this makes them much easier to fly through the air... is that a positive?)!!!
